Detroit, MI- A truck driver who ignored an important safety measure at the U.S. Steel’s Great Lakes location has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after he struck and killed a steel worker.

Last Saturday 41-year-old Heather Warren was working as spotter at the U.S. Steel plant in Ecorse when she was struck. CBS reports that Warren was spotting another a truck, helping guide it into a bay when she was struck by a 48-year-old Miho Saljic.

Warren’s sister told the News Herald that Saljic backed into Heather, pinning her between two trucks. She added that Warren wasn’t trained to be a spotter and usually worked the floor.

Police said Saljic who was hauling a trailer of steel springs was not using a spotter when he fatally struck Warren. Saljic was taken into custody at the scene and charged with vehicular manslaughter which carries a 15-year jail term, according to CBS Detroit.

He is now out on bond with the requirement he wear ankle monitor.

Not many of the details surrounding this accident have been released, but U.S. Steel assured it will be thoroughly investigated.
