Truck AccidentAlbany, NY- An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car in Upstate New York left one person dead early Monday morning and snarled traffic for several hours.

The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Northway in Clifton Park. Police say that the 75-year-old driver of a tractor-trailer clipped a Volkswagen traveling in the left lane. The car then went out control and finally came to rest on the right shoulder, the Times Union reported.

After striking the car, the tractor-trailer struck a guard-rail and overturned, eventually coming to rest in the center median, according to the Times Union. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

The southbound lanes of the Northway remained closed until after 4 Monday afternoon.

Police are still investigating the accident and not said whether anyone would be cited.

In this particular accident, the passenger vehicle motorist wasn’t seriously injured. The Times-Union reported that the 48-year-old driver of the struck vehicle  suffered minor cuts and bruises; her three passengers were not.
