Akron, OH- A truck driver is facing multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter following a crash on the Ohio Turnpike that killed a 14-year-old girl and seriously injured two of her family members.

The Daily Freeman reports that the accident occurred August 17th around 2:15 p.m. on the Ohio Turnpike near Castalia and involved ten vehicles. The paper reports that traffic in the eastbound lanes had slowed in a one-lane work zone when a tractor-trailer slammed into several cars.

Police said that traffic had just slowed and had not come to complete stop.

According to WKBN, a 14-year-old girl was killed. The girl’s father and brother were also injured and were sent to the hospital in critical condition. The TV-station reports that a total of seven people who were injured, but their conditions were not known.

Police have not said why the truck driver, a 40-year-old man, failed to slow down, but he was charged with several counts including vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, the Daily Freeman reports.
