photodune-693773-death-xsMiami-Dade County, FL- A South Florida family filed a wrongful death suit against a construction company which owned two trucks involved in a double fatal accident last month on Interstate 75.

In their the lawsuit, the family of Liza Angulo, a 17-year-old recent high school grad who was headed to the University of Miami on a full scholarship, alleges that Ranger Construction’s negligence lead to their daughter’s death. They allege that the way trucks for the company enter and leave the I-75 construction zone poses dangers for motorists, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Angulo was in the second of two fatal accidents that occurred on May 28th in the I-75 construction zone near Hollywood. The Sun Sentinel reports that a flat-bed truck owned by Ranger Construction Industries was pulling out of the construction zone around 11:35 p.m. when it was struck by car which became trapped underneath. That car was dragged nearly a quarter of a mile, shearing off the top.

The driver of that car, a 29-year-old med student, was killed and his front seat passenger sustained major injuries.

The Sentinel reports that as that accident was taking place, Angulo clipped the rear of that tractor-trailer, causing a large concrete highway divider to fall on her car. She was killed on the scene.

The attorney representing Angulo’s family told Local10.com that there were no closed lanes which would allow trucks to enter the roadway without risk to other motorists.
