Around the same time this accident occurred, another truck collision occurred in Dakota County, SD involving six teens who crashed a pickup truck they had stolen. A 15-year-old boy was behind the wheel of that truck and had three boys and two girls traveling with him. The teens allegedly were runaways from Sioux Falls, SD and apparently stole the pickup truck around 6:15 a.m. at the Super America gas station in Eagan. A few hours after the teens stole the truck, Inver Grove Heights police officers spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over.

Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported that the teen driver fled from officers and that is when the high-speed chase began.  At certain times during the case, officers mentioned that the driver was traveling 100 miles per hour and even faster and “blew through several red lights.” Because of the reckless way he was driving, the teen ended up crashing into a woman’s SUV at the intersection of 80th Street and Barnes Avenue in Inver Grove Heights. Three of the boys jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but were later caught by police near City Hall.
