After Amarillo Police officers were dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Interstate 40 and Soncy Road, they arrived only to find that one of the victims in the collision had died at the scene [Source: News Channel 10]. Just before the incident transpired, 23-year-old Luise Anchondo-Balderama had been heading northbound on Soncy in his white Dodge truck. As the operator of a blue Ford truck was traveling westbound on the I-40 access road, it was struck on the driver’s side by Anchondo-Balderama and the passenger’s side was pushed into a telephone pole. The driver of that vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As mentioned before, the passenger in that vehicle suffered fatal injuries.
News Channel 10 also reported that Anchondo-Balderama suffered minor injuries and was later arrested for intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault. He was then booked into the Potter County jail. Officials say that alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash.
