Concrete TruckPhoenix, AZ- An accident involving a Phoenix-area produce truck and a cement truck left one man dead early last Thursday morning.

Police say the accident occurred last Friday around 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak drive. According to ABC 15, a Stern produce truck was struck and then rammed into a utility pole.

The driver of the produce truck, who has not been identified, was killed.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard of the Phoenix Police Department told ABC 15, that one an eastbound truck and a northbound truck collided at the intersection. Howard said it is possible the cement truck ran a red light, but the investigation into the accident is ongoing.

According to Arizona Star, one other person suffered minor injuries, but refused medical treatment.

There is no word whether anyone will face citations.

In a recent safety initiative, conducted by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, failing to obey traffic signals and signs was among the top five traffic citations issued to over 19,000 commercial truck drivers during Operation Safe Driver conducted in October. Other citations were commonly issued for speeding, failure to use safety belts, following too closely and improper lane change.

Too many motorists, truck drivers included, don’t think twice about disobeying a traffic signal and have little consideration of potential harm they could cause. Some people willfully ignore traffic signs and signals because they are in a rush to get to their destination, they weren’t paying attention or they miscalculate the risk of running a red light or stop sign.  When in a hurry, it can be tempting to blast through a red light, or ignore speed limits, but as this accident shows, ignoring traffic laws can have deadly consequences.

Some accidents are out of a truck driver’s control, but if their actions are the direct result of a tragic truck collision, they can and most likely will be held accountable for the injuries or deaths that result from their reckless behaviors.

Victims of truck drivers who take unnecessary risks by running a red light, not paying attention to the road or is driving while intoxicated should speak with a truck accident attorney in Phoenix to discuss the details of their accident and explore their options for obtaining financial compensation.

A truck accident can take an immense toll on the injured or those who have lost a loved one. Oftentimes the injuries suffered are so catastrophic that the victims are saddled with unimaginable debt. That isn’t fair and they should never be expected to cover those costs if a truck driver or trucking company is responsible for their pain and anguish.
