Multnomah County, OR- A truck driver drifted off the side of an Oregon freeway and set off a chain of events that led to the death of a mother and a toddler.

The Register Guard reports that the accident occurred Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 99 West north of Junction City.

Police told the Register Guard that the driver of a tractor-trailer drifted off the side of the highway and overcorrected. His tractor-trailer the jackknifed, crossing both lanes of travel. A passenger truck with four passengers then slammed into truck.

The Register Guard reports that a woman and a 2-year-old who were passengers in the truck were killed. The driver of the truck and an infant passenger were seriously injured and taken to a local hospital. Their identities have not been made public.

The truck driver suffered only minor injuries but had to be extricated from his rig before he could be taken to the hospital.
