Utility truck crashes on a roadside and falls into the water below
The incident occurred on a part of Interstate Highway 20 that goes through Lincoln County on a Wednesday afternoon. The young man who was operating the truck was going eastbound on Highway 20 near the Elk City Road intersection. Law enforcement believes that he lost control of the vehicle, then it left the road surface, went over a guard rail while slipping and turned over in a small body of water that connects to a stream nearby. Photos of the scene showed the vehicle at rest upside down in the water.
The driver was pronounced dead by rescue workers on the scene, while a 42 year old male passenger was injured in the crash. He was taken to a hospital in Corvallis called Good Samaritan for treatment, but the specifics of his injuries were not listed in the news report.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver likely lost control of the vehicle right around 3:12 pm, and that the vehicle was produced by the company Frieghtliner for utility services. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Oregon State Police, Lincoln Sheriff’s Office, and Toledo’s police and fire departments.
How to begin the process of getting help after a truck accident
If there are injuries, it is important to contact the local police or fire department right away at the accident scene. It is also necessary to get in touch with your insurance company as soon as it is safe to do so. This will help create a formal record of the event and begin an investigation. The police investigation should contain important factual information about the accident and an opinion regarding the cause of the collision. This accident report is often an important piece of evidence in civil cases, and witnesses or others who responded to the scene may give testimony in court or a deposition.
Wrongful death cases in Oregon
A family member of a deceased person can bring a civil lawsuit on their behalf after an accident. Oregon has slightly different rules for these kinds of cases than every other state, so it is important to talk to a local lawyer. The statute of limitations is shorter than for civil negligence cases, which means it is beneficial to get assistance from a truck accident attorney as soon as possible if a family member has been killed in an accident.
