Two Pennsylvania police offers were injured after being hit by a dump truck. Both officers were on motorcycles escorting the motorcade. They were part of the city’s Special Deployment Division and were taken to a hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the Post-Gazette reports. The accident that injured the officers was the second of the day, occurring a few minutes following a minor collision involving Pence’s bus and the dump truck, the Post-Gazette reports.
Personal injury action.
When injuries, damages, or wrongful death occur as a result of an automobile accident in Pennsylvania, an experienced personal injury attorney can help with a claim for compensation, based on the assignment of responsibility. Speak with a Pennsylvania accident attorney who knows the particulars of a case, and can determine filing times, which can be less then the two year timeline when a municipal vehicle is involved.
An accident report must be filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Safety within five days after a collision results in death, injury, or significant property damage. An auto accident attorney can explain Pennsylvania’s “modified comparative negligence” rule, where an individual can still recover damages in a personal injury lawsuit, but the amount of compensation will be reduced by an amount that is equal to their percentage of fault. A plaintiff can only seek damages from the defendant if they are less than 51 percent at fault. Under Pennsylvania’s no-fault system, a driver may turn to his, or her own insurance company for compensation for injuries up to the personal injury protection, or “PIP” limit, regardless of fault. Drivers also have the right to circumvent Pennsylvania’s no-fault law and proceed directly against an at-fault driver under certain circumstances.
Municipal truck drivers are involved in accidents for a multitude of reasons, including time spent on roadways, schedules, cargo loads and driver fatigue to name a few. A skilled personal injury attorney can help sort out any claim for damages arising out of truck accident, whether it was a direct result of an impact crash, or other roadway danger, and initiate a lawsuit in the appropriate amount of time. Truck accidents can cause severe damage to nearby vehicles because of the extreme difference in size and weight, increasing possibilities of death and devastating injury. Damages may include medical expenses, lost wages, and compensation for pain and suffering and future earnings.
