Jacksonville, FL- An early morning collision involving a box truck and two other vehicles left one man dead Friday and tied up I-95 for several hours.

First Coast News reports that the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the outlet mall in St. Augustine. The fatal chain of events unfolded when a box truck carrying several pounds of lost control and overturned in the travel lanes.

The overturned box truck was then struck by a wrecker hauling a tractor-trailer and went careening across the center median into southbound lanes, finally coming to rest in a wooded area, according to First Coast News. The box truck was then struck by a Chevy Silverado.

The driver of the box truck, a 63 –year-old man, was killed.

According to reports, the driver of the Silverado and two passengers were injured and take to local hospitals for treatment.

The accident led to the closure of both the northbound and southbound sides of I-95 were closed in the crash area and traffic was diverted onto SR-16 and SR-207. Both sides of I-95 remained closed until after 8 a.m.

It is unclear why the driver of the box truck lost control and overturned.
