WKYT reports that a 54-year-old Tennessee man, hauling a load of wood, was traveling in the northbound lanes of I-75 near Richmond when he lost control and ran off the road crashing into the center median. As the truck was careening across the roadway, large pieces of lumber came flying off randomly hitting cars in the southbound lanes.
According to WKYT, six to eight cars crashed after being hit by debris, and several people were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police say the truck driver crashed because he experienced a medical event.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
