Trucks can easily overturn if struck by another vehicle.

Las Vegas, NV- There are many ways in which a tractor-trailer or other large commercial truck can be dangerous and become the catalyst for a disastrous collision or make the outcome of a truck accident worse. A recent Las Vegas accident is an example of how truck crashes can change a person’s life and leave them with costly injuries.

The accident in question occurred on Monday, April 25th at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Washington Avenue, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The station reports that around 10:40 a.m. the driver of a pickup ran a red light and crashed into a car, pushing it into a tractor-trailer.

The tractor-trailer then overturned on top of the car which then caused the trailer to detach and drag the vehicle several feet before slamming into a pole supporting the sign of local tavern. The car was crushed under the tractor-trailer.

The driver that was killed was a 60-year-old Las Vegas man who was pronounced dead at the scene, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. The man’s passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital.

Nearly 4,000 people are killed in truck accidents each year.

The 39-year-old man driving the pickup was also seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Police said the accident was still under investigation, but one officer told Las Vegas Now that they planned on testing the pickup driver for drug use.

It seems as if the driver of the pickup truck is mostly at fault for this collision and is responsible for compensating all victims involved, but the investigation will have to be concluded before the truck driver is absolved of any responsibility. Aside from showing how horrific truck crashes are, this accident and others demonstrate how important it is to determine the cause of an accident.

Truck accidents involving injuries are on the rise in the U.S.
