Authorities say a tractor-trailer rear-ended a passenger vehicle on January 9, 2018, on I-294 in Chicago, setting off a chain-reaction collision that injured five people. The Chicago Tribune reports that the crash happened around 4:00 p.m. near the Ogden Ave. Exit when a tractor-trailer driver was unable to stop and crashed into the rear of a Hyundai which was then pushed into a Chevrolet Equinox. The Equinox then hit an Infiniti in front of it.

All five people in the Hyundai were injured to varying degrees. Three people sitting in the back of the Hyundai had to be extricated using the jaws of life, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The occupants of the Chevrolet and Infiniti refused medical treatment.

Hinsdale firefighter and public information officer Steve Tullis told the Chicago Tribune that the rear of the Hyundai was folded in like an accordion.
