Overturned TruckBrevard County, FL- A tractor-trailer crash last Friday just outside Orlando left one teen with serious injuries and tied up traffic on Orange Blossom Trail for several hours.

Witness told police Acosta ran a red-light, slamming into a SUV driven by 17-year-old Ashleigh Rowe. After striking the SUV, Acosta’s tractor-trailer, which was carrying construction materials, veered left and then overturned, according to WFTV.

Rowe was taken to a local hospital, but was released later that day. The exact nature of her injuries is not known.

Acosta was not injured.

Debris from the truck scattered across the roadway, forcing police to close the westbound lanes for several hours as they cleaned

What’s more, WFTV found that the trucking company Acosta works for has been cited of violating federal regulations on numerous occasions. The news station found the company received out-of-service violations for disobeying hours-of-service rules and vehicle maintenance regulations.

They also noted that Acosta had not maintained his driver’s log book for a week prior to last Friday’s accident.

Trooper Wesley Harsey told WFTV that the trucking company will be on the hook for the cost of cleaning up the accident which he said will cost in the $15,000 to $18,000 range.

The cost of the cleanup just scratches the surface of the costs Acosta and the trucking company. Both parties are also responsible for the Rowe’s injuries and the damage done to her vehicle.

Sadly, many trucking companies across the U.S. are cited for serious violations that endanger every other motorist they share the road with. Far too many truck companies place their profits above the safety of their drivers and passenger vehicle motorists. They are willing to take chances just to save a few dollars in the short term with little consideration of pain they can cause to others if involved in a truck accident.
