One Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-5
A multi-vehicle accident between a semi-truck and several passenger vehicles result in one death on Tuesday, January 9, 2017.
According to Fox 40 in Sacramento, the crash involved up to eight vehicles including a semi-truck which struck a sedan. The circumstances that led to the crash are not sure, but they believe a previous accident led to a traffic backup causing the truck to hit the sedan.
It was raining at the time of the crash, so police suspect that it was a factor, Fox 40 reports.
The Fox 40 reporter Tweeted a photo of the tractor-trailer on top of a crushed car that was almost entirely flattened.
All northbound lanes of I-5 were closed for hours after the 4 a.m. crash, allowing police to conduct their investigation and clear the scene.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 74 percent of fatal truck accidents in 2015 resulted in the death of the passenger vehicle occupants. Occupants of cars and trucks are at a disadvantage if they are hit by semi-truck or another sizeable commercial vehicle that can weigh upwards of 80,000 lbs. As the data suggests, the passenger vehicle occupant is more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries in a collision with a commercial truck.
