A 63-year-old truck driver in Bourne, MA was involved in an accident on MacArthur Boulevard on April 21 and claimed a bird was the cause of the incident. The man told officials that after the bird flew in through into his window, it hit him in the head causing him to swerve his truck that was carrying 12,000 gallons of unleaded fuel off the roadway and into a utility pole. A fire then broke out and the Bourne Fire Department arrived on the scene where they were able to successfully put it out.

Surprisingly enough, a driver who had been traveling behind the tractor-trailer the entire time, caught the incident on camera and was able to provide the video footage to police. CBC Boston also has the footage available to view on their website. In the video, which provided a rather clear picture, you can see the trucker gradually veer off to the right side of the road, take down a utility pole, and attempt to correct his mistake. The trucker ended up cutting across the two-lane roadway and stopped his vehicle off to the left of traffic. Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Unfortunately for the trucker, officers were under the impression that his statement contradicted what they saw in the video. Officers ultimately determined that they were not able to confirm the truckers account of the accident and the driver was charged with failure to stay within the marked lanes and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Truck Crashes Through Star Market in Quincy

Another truck accident occurred just yesterday, this time in Quincy, Massachusetts. Apparently, the driver of a pickup truck was attempting to back out of his parking space at the Star Market located at 130 Granite Street, but there was a shopping cart preventing him from doing so. The man got out of his vehicle to move the cart and forgot to put it in park. As a result, the truck continued to drive and struck the building, breaking some of the windows in the store.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the accident and a building inspector came out to confirm that the structure was still safe. The Boston Globe reported that the store remained open throughout the incident.
