Tragic Crash in Bennington Leads to Fatality and Closure of Route 279
BENNINGTON, Vt. — A serious crash on VT Route 279 east of U.S. Route 7 in Bennington has claimed the life of a driver, according to local police. The accident occurred on Monday and has led to traffic delays and a multi-agency response.

Laura Seeley, 39, of Hartwick, New York, died from injuries sustained during the crash. Officers located a 2018 Dodge 3500 truck with a sleeper camper in the eastbound lane and a 2022 Jeep Cherokee off the roadway. Route 297 was closed for more than three hours while the crash was being investigated. The Vermont Agency of Transportation has announced that rolling roadblocks will be implemented in the area on Wednesday and Thursday to erect steel barriers.
